When Square-Enix managed to get Final Fantasy XIII so catastrophically wrong compared to fans expectations, it was great to see them refining the series with Final Fantasy XIII-2‘s innovations. Now, though, they’ve changed tact almost entirely with Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.
For some reason, they’ve ditched the traditional turn-based nature of play, opting for a far more action-oriented mode that seems to be similar to that of the upcoming Final Fantasy XV.
Still, it works excellently and – from what I’ve played – sets itself up to be the best game in the Lightning series of Final Fantasy titles.
